Challenge/goal:
-Showcase how design can enhance public space and foster community engagement in Dumbo Brooklyn.

Solution:
-Launched a year-long competition for designers to propose installations that will offer new opportunities for public gathering and programming.
-Wrote RFP, secured financial supporters, established strategic partnerships, and orchestrated a launch marketing campaign.

Outcome/impact:
-Received hundreds of submissions, indicating widespread interest and participation.
-Secured hundreds of thousands of dollars in sponsorship revenue, ensuring financial sustainability.
-Garnered millions of impressions throughout the project’s lifespan, contributing to heightened visibility and engagement within the community.

“Scale Up Your Design” campaign at HD Expo

Challenge/goal:
-Make Material Bank stand out at HD Expo industry trade show.

Solution:
-The Material Bank box is the brand’s most recognizable brand element to industry professionals. Leveraged this symbol and produced an oversized version of the box to capture the attention of show attendees. Once intrigued, engage designers and prospective clients within the booth through platform demos and on-site contests.
-Built a unique creative campaign around the concept of “Scale up”, alluding to Material Bank’s ability to enhance a designer’s workflow and the physical size of the box at the event.

Outcome/impact:
-Hundreds of new leads for audience growth and sales teams.
-Impressive engagement rates on pre, during, and post creative campaign across social and email channels.

Designer Residency at Hudson Yards

Challenge/goal:
-Recent design graduates were without space to work and network during COVID.
-Activate vacant retail spaces.

Solution:
-Brought together NYCxDESIGN, Artsthread, and Hudson Yards to create a highly visible workspace for emerging creators.

Outcome/impact:
-The first three-month term of the project garnered millions of marketing impressions and landed multiple residents with opportunities to further their careers.

New York Wheel Strategic Planning

Challenge/goal:
-Drive the revitalization and economic development of Staten Island's St. George Waterfront.
-Transform area into premier tourism destination.

Solution:
-Activate a multimillion-dollar grant to establish a marketing coalition, deriving attendance assumptions, driving business development strategies, and orchestrating extensive media campaigns.
-Outlined a comprehensive go-to-market strategy.

Outcome/impact:
-Brought together local community, real estate developers, and government.
-Forged partnerships with local institutions, contributing significantly to the area's planned transformation within New York City's tourism landscape.

An Ode to NYC Poster Campaign

Challenge/goal:
-Maintain programming and revenue development for NYCxDESIGN during COVID.

Solution:
-Invite NYC-based creatives to design posters inspired by their love for the City during a trying time.
-Recruit design showrooms and cultural spaces to showcase these posters in their windows, creating a walkable viewing experience throughout NYC.

Outcome/impact:
-Design brands loved this program and paid to be a sponsor as well as a participant in showcasing the art. The program became a new revenue stream, contributing nearly 30% to the nonprofit’s year-one operating budget, and still exists today.

NYCxDESIGN’s Organizational Future.

Challenge/goal:
-Build a business model for the future of NYCxDESIGN, an initiative operated by a media company and kickstarted by the City of New York.

Solution:
-After months of stakeholder interviews and research, it was recommended to transform NYCxDESIGN into a not-for-profit organization.

Outcome/impact:
-This change allowed NYCxDESIGN to expand its support to a wider design ecosystem and opened it up to key fundraising mechanisms like Foundation grants, donations, and City/State funding.

NYC Digital Design Tour

Challenge/goal:
-Allow audience to engage with and learn from NYC’s design community from the comfort of home.

Solution:
-Launched a platform with rich storytelling about key NYC design districts across the five boroughs.
-The videos feature a behind-the-scenes look at design studios, architectural facades, cultural institutions, creative landmarks, and restaurants.

Outcome:
-High quality, evergreen content with multiple use-cases.
-Increased engagement on social and digital channels due to audience interest in video content.
